What Does the DRL Light Mean on a Honda Pilot?

Let’s check out what the “DRL” indicator on your Pilot’s gauge cluster really implies.
When the DRL warning light illuminates on the dashboard of your Honda Pilot, it implies that the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) has recognized a problem with the Daytime Running Lights.

1. One or Both Daytime Running Light Bulb is Bad:
Faulty DRL bulbs are the most common source of the Pilot’s DRL light.
It’s conceivable that one of the bulbs is dead, maybe both. Depending on your driving habits and the make and year of your Pilot, these bulbs can last anywhere from 700 to 1500 hours.
The light from the bulb will fade and eventually go out as time passes.
If this happens, it’s a sign that one or both of the bulbs in question are malfunctioning and should be replaced, as indicated by the DRL indicator coming on.

2. Faulty DRL Relay (Module):

Your Pilot’s DRL light’s operation is managed by the DRL relay.
The DRL lamps will not come on at the appropriate times if this relay is broken or malfunctioning.
The DRL indicator light will turn on as a warning if one or both of these bulbs are defective.
3. Blown Fuse:
A blown fuse is the last and most unlikely cause of your Pilot’s DRL light not working.
A blown fuse is the result of a problem with your electrical system, such as a short or overload. Many things, including faulty wiring, worn-out parts, and corrosion, might contribute to this problem.
When the DRL fuse blows, the lights will no longer come on when the car is started.
The DRL fuse in a Honda Pilot is probably Fuse 1 = 7.5A, and it may be found in the second slot of the top row of fuses (reading from left to right).

How to Fix and Reset the DRL Light on a Pilot

1. Replace the Bad Bulb(s)
I would suggest starting out by checking the bulbs themselves as the first thing you should do.
You will need to replace them if either one of them has completely lost its functionality. This is a simple operation that does not call for any specialized instruments or apparatus.
All that is required is a screwdriver with a Phillips head and replacement bulbs purchased from your neighborhood auto parts store.
You can get the appropriate bulbs at the Honda dealership closest to you, at any online or local car store, or at any auto parts store.
You won’t need to spend a lot of money on this because the DRL bulbs cost anywhere between $10 and $20 per bulb on average. To replace the old bulbs with new ones, you need only unscrew the old ones first.
This should resolve the issue in the vast majority of instances. If not, proceed to the second possible solution.
2. Replace the Faulty DRL Relay/Module
If replacing out the bulbs does not resolve the issue, then it is probable that the relay or module in issue is damaged.
You are going to need to exchange out the damaged component if you want to solve the problem.
Check to see which of the modules has a DRL light that is functioning normally, and then replace the module on the other side if it does not. This will help you figure out which module has to be replaced.
It is extremely rare that both DRL relays will fail at the same time.
3. Check the Fuses
If replacing out the relay didn’t work, checking the fuse might be the next step.
You can check to see if the fuse is blown by using a fuse tester. If not, check the fuse box for a blown Fuse 1 = 7.5A and replace it if necessary.
Following these procedures, the “DRL” warning in your Pilot should no longer appear and the DRL lights should begin functioning normally.

Honda Pilot DRL (Daytime Running Light) Reset

This clears any errors and gets the daytime running lights working again after repairs or bulb changes. Drive a short distance to verify the lights are on and reset is complete.
